Ryan Reynolds to Star in the Upcoming Live-Action Film Adaptation of DRAGON'S LAIR!

The classic 1983 cartoon-style fantasy arcade game Dragon’s Lair is getting a live-action adaptation, and Ryan Reynolds is in talks to star in and produce it!

The story for the game follows a knight named Dirk the Daring, and he must rescue the fetching Princess Daphne from the clutches of the evil dragon known as Singe and the wizard Mordroc. Reynold’s will obviously take on the role of Dirk and he’s actually kind of perfect for the part!

The original game came from legendary animation director Don Bluth (An American Tail and All Dogs Go to Heaven), who is also a producer on the film. It was an incredibly popular video game. I used to play it all the time! I loved it! It was ahead of its time as it was supposed to revolutionize the arcade industry with its movie-style animation and storytelling techniques. The story was also expanded on Laserdisc.

I’m excited about this project! I’m happy that Reynolds is attached to it! The only downside is that it’s coming to Netflix, and we might not get to see it on the big screen.

The film project is set up at Netflix with Dan and Kevin Hageman, who previously worked on The Lego Movie and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, writing the script. The Hagemans are also currently the showrunners of Nickelodeon's Star Trek animated series, and they wrote The Croods 2, which features Reynolds as one of the voice stars. Roy Lee (It and Doctor Sleep) is attached to produce.

What do you think about Reynolds coming on board to star in the live-action film adaptation of Dragon’s Lair? Have you ever played the original video game? If not, you can watch the trailer for it below along with a playthrough of the game.
