Ryan Reynolds is set to star in and produce the upcoming monster comedy Everyday Parenting Tips, which is set up at Universal Pictures.

The film project is based on a humorous short story published in The New Yorker earlier this year. The story was told in a Q&A format and included, “Q: When my child gets upset about monsters, my husband makes jokes to try to cheer her up. Is he making the problem worse? A: Your husband is probably a monster.”

Here’s what the story entails:

A father offers advice on what to say when their child says they believe a monster lurks under the bed — at a time when an ongoing Monster Uprising is actually happening in the world. The creature pandemic has unleashed the likes of Gorgog the Annihilator, Ctharga the Eater of Souls and a “giant, swirling portal in the sky that looks like a screaming mouth” that is simply called Drain of Ga.

Reynolds will play a father who is dealing with the everyday challenges of family and raising kids, which is made that much more difficult by an ongoing Great Monster Uprising.

Paddington director Paul King is set to direct the movie with Phil Lord and Chris Miller producing. I love the concept for this story and it seems like it will make a great film that audiences will enjoy. I’m certainly looking forward to watching it, especially with the talented creative team behind it.
