Sadie Sink Learned She Was Cast in SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY From the Internet
Sometimes Marvel casting news breaks in the most backward way possible. In the case of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Sadie Sink didn’t get a phone call or a quiet meeting first.
She saw her name tied to the MCU online before Marvel Studios ever made it official. The actor has now shared how fan theories beat the studio to the reveal, turning her casting into a strange MCU casting story.
While the mystery around Sink’s role continues to drive MCU fans a little wild, her recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon added an unexpected wrinkle to the story. She confirmed she’s locked down by Marvel secrecy, but she also shared how surreal the whole process was.
"It's torture. There's so much speculation," she said. "I feel like there's a new character every week. I tell people. The people I know. I found out through online theories. Before I got cast, there was speculation online that said, 'Sadie Sink is gonna be in the new Spider-Man.'"
That would be strange enough, but the timing made it even more uncanny.
"I was like, ‘I am?’ Sure enough, two days later, they asked me to do it," Sink continued. "Those theories, there's sometimes some truth to [them]."
At this point, Sink’s mystery role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still under wraps, but Jean Grey remains the most talked about possibility, especially since industry insider Jeff Sneider was the first to connect Sink to the film with that specific character. Sink’s comments don’t confirm anything, but they also don’t cool the speculation.
Reports suggest Sink would appear both before and after Avengers: Secret Wars, potentially as a Variant tied directly into Marvel’s Multiversal endgame. Trades have also indicated she’ll show up in the 2027 Avengers: Secret Wars film.
There’s also the visual evidence fans can’t ignore. Based on set photos and a leaked trailer description, Sink’s character looks far closer to the Ultimate Universe version of Jean Grey. If her powers are just emerging and she’s on the run from the Department of Damage Control, that hardened edge suddenly makes a lot of sense.
For now, Marvel Studios is staying quiet, but that silence might not last much longer. A first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is reportedly on the way, and that could finally answer the question fans have been arguing about for months. Or Marvel might choose to keep the mystery alive just a bit longer.
The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, with a script from returning Spider-Man writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
Tom Holland suits up once again as Peter Parker, alongside Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Zendaya as MJ, Michael Mando as Mac Gargan, Tramell Tillman, Marvin Jones III as Tombstone, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, and Liza Colón-Zayas. Florence Pugh is also expected to return as Yelena Belova following her role in Thunderbolts.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters on July 31, 2026.
