Sakurai Agrees There are Too Many FIRE EMBLEM and Sword Characters in SUPER SMASH BROS

There are two big complaints that fans have about the roster of characters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The first is that there is seemingly a disproportionate number of characters from the Fire Emblem series. The second is that there are a lot of people who use swords. Well, it turns out the game’s director, Masahiro Sakurai, shares these sentiments.

According to a new post in Famitsu, it sounds like Sakurai would rather bring in other, more unique characters to the game, but the characters were requested by Nintendo and he’s merely doing what he can. So, while he cannot deny these characters, he has been trying to make these newer characters as unique as possible. I will say, I’ve played with Byleth a bit and am happy that the character is pretty unique and doesn’t feel like the other Fire Emblem or sword characters. At least Sakurai seems to be doing what he can to make the inclusion of these characters not so bad.
