Sally Field To Befriend an Octopus in Netflix's Film Adaptation of REMARKABLY BRIGHT CREATURES

Legendary actress Sally Field is in talks to star in Netflix’s film adaptation of the novel Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. This is a very interesting project and it’s a pretty wild story.

Remarkably Bright Creatures follows “a lonely widow’s unlikely friendship with a giant octopus. After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she begins working the night shift as a janitor at a local aquarium.

“At work, she becomes acquainted with an eight-tentacled animal named Marcellus, who helps Tova uncover the truth about her son’s disappearance at sea 30 years ago.”

The project is in the early stages of development with Olivia Newman (Where the Crawdads Sing) set to direct. Newman is also co-writing the screenplay with John Whittington (Sonic the Hedgehog 2, The Lego Batman Movie).

Fields, a two-time Oscar winner for Norma Rae and Places in the Heart, was most recently in 80 for Brady. Some of her other film credits include Mrs. Doubtfire, Forrest Gump, Steel Magnolia, Smokey and the Bandit and Lincoln.

Anonymous Content’s David Levine is producing Remarkably Bright Creatures with Bryan Unkeless (I, Tonya) and Field’s son Peter Craig (Top Gun: Maverick, The Batman).
