Salma Hayek Replaces Thandiwe Newton in Channing Tatum's MAGIC MIKE'S LAST DANCE
Salma Hayek has joined the cast of Channing Tatum and director Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike sequel, Magic Mike’s Last Dance. She replaces Thandiwe Newton, who “has made the difficult decision to step away from the production of Warner Bros. Pictures’ Magic Mike’s Last Dance to deal with family matters.”
Tatum will return to the role of Mike Lane, Soderbergh will direct, and Reid Carolin is writing the script. The project is being developed for HBO Max, and it will bring a close to the franchise.
When previously talking about the film, Tatum and Carolin teased the story and revealed that the lead female role would be crucial to it. Carline said, “It’s really about a woman stuck at a horrible strip show like a Chippendales and then realizing, ‘What the hell am I doing here?’ And then Magic Mike comes down from the ceiling. She gets to go down the rabbit hole and asks: What do I really want?”
Tatum added that the character is “really strong, almost stronger than Mike … we’ve never done a traditional love story, and this isn’t a traditional love story.”
The movie is currently in production in the U.K. and the creative team is super excited about making the sequel. Hayek is a great actress and a solid choice to bring on to the project in the lead female role.
