Sam Raimi Confirms a New EVIL DEAD Movie is Being Developed

Sam Raimi is ready to give up on the Evil Dead franchise just yet. Just because the series was canceled by Starz and Bruce Campbell retired from the role of Ash, doesn’t mean the franchise is dead!

During a recent interview with Bloody-Disgusting, Raimi was asked what the future of the Evil Dead held and he explained that he is developing ideas:

“I’d love to make another one. I don’t think TV is in its future but we’re talking about – Bruce Campbell, Rob Tapert and myself – one or two different ways to go for the next movie. We’d like to make another Evil Dead feature and in fact we’re working on some ideas right now.”

It’s explained that Raimi and his pals have a couple of ideas for the film. One idea that would continue the story of Ash if Bruce Campbell decided to return, and then another idea if Campbell sticks with his retirement. As for Fede Álvarez, who directed the remake, they also have an idea for that storyline if he’s able to return, and another idea if he can’t. Raimi goes on to say:

“I would be thrilled if Bruce Campbell changed his mind about retirement, would come back for the original Evil Dead line. But if not, I’m very happy to work with, if Fede [Álvarez] would come back and make the sequel… but he’s such a big shot now. He’s so successful, an artist in demand, that I don’t think he’d want to do that.”

When talking about the Evil Dead remake, the director confirmed that it is part of the Evil Dead universe but not part of the Bruce Campbell storyline. That remake is happening in a different corner of the original universe.

Raimi then added that there is “also a third possibility we’re talking about.” He didn’t go into great detail about this third possibility, but he did offer a timeline of when we might see some real movement on a new Evil Dead film:

“So I think you may see some action on the Evil Dead movie in the next six months.”

I love the Evil Dead franchise, so I’m one of those fans who will take what he can get! As long as Raimi and Campbell are involved with the development of the story, I’m 100% in. I’m ready for more Evil Dead!
