Sam Raimi Explains How John Krasinski Ended up as Mr. Fantastic in DOCTOR STRANGE 2
It was an incredibly fun surprise to see John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic in Marvel Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This is a casting that fans have been wanting to see for years, and they finally got it. But things played out in a way that no one was expecting when he was straight-up murdered by Scarlet Witch.
Director Sam Raimi recently opened up about how Krasinski ended up in film playing this character. Raimi shared in the film's audio commentary:
"It's so funny that [Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige] cast John because the fans had a dream of who the perfect Reed Richards would be. And because this is an alternate universe, I think Kevin said, 'Let's make that dream come true.' I've always really enjoyed all of his performances."
With Raimi pointing out that they cast Krasinski in the role because this was “an alternate universe,” there’s a good chance that we won’t see Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic again. Marvel Studios might have different plans for casting for the Fantastic Four movie they are developing. We’ll see.
Film writer Michael Waldron has also shared in the audio commentary that the film originally had a much darker ending. he says, "Strange gets trapped in that [incursion] universe. And then [Sinister Strange] turns around, and the third eye opens."
Did you enjoy seeing Krasinski as Mr fantastic in Doctor Strange 2? Who would you like to see play the character if Marvel doesn’t use him in the solo Fantastic Four movie?
