Sam Raimi in Talks to Direct A PROPHET Remake For Sony Pictures
I've been wondering what Sam Raimi's next big movie project would be, and now it looks like he's getting ready to make his move on one. Variety is reporting that the Evil Dead director is in talks to direct a remake of A Prophet for Sony Pictures.
If Raimi takes the gig, this will be a very different kind of project for him. The original film follows an Arab man who is sent to a French prison and soon becomes a Mafia kingpin among the prisoners.
The script for the remake was written by Dennis Lehane (Shutter Island), and Neal H. Moritz is attached to produce. The studio is looking to put the project on the fast track to production, and they hope to start shooting this summer. On top of trying to get Raimi on board to direct, the studio is also looking to cast someone in the lead role.
Raimi most recently worked as a director and producer on the Evil Dead series on Starz. If he take this directing gig it will be his first feature film since Oz, The Great and Powerful. I think this would be a solid project for him to take on, and I'd be interested to see what he does with it, especially since it's a completely different genre than we're used to seeing him work in.
