Sam Raimi is Set To Direct a New Horror Film Described as “MISERY Meets CAST AWAY”
Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Spider-Man) has jumped on board a new horror film project that he will direct. It’s been a long time since Raimi has directed a movie and I’m happy to see that he’s going to be bringing us a new horror film!
I’ll be honest, I’ve missed him making movies! The last movie he made was Oz, The Great and Powerful back in 2013. The last horror movie he made was Drag Me To Hell in 2009. He’s had a few projects come and go over the years, but nothing ever happened with them. Hopefully, this next one will actually get made!
The untitled project was written by Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, who wrote 2009’s reboot of Friday the 13th. It’s based on an original idea that they came up with.
According to THR, the project is being described as Stephen King’s Misery meets Tom Hanks’ Cast Away” in tone. I’m curious to see what that looks like and what the story will entail! Raimi had this to say in a statement:
“I am thrilled to be reunited with Columbia Pictures and re-teaming with Sanford (Panitch, Sony’s motion pictures group president) and Ange (Giannetti). I have been a fan of Shannon and Swift and we have found the perfect adventure to share with the world.”
Raimi has worked with Shannon and Swift in the past on a Bermuda Triangle film project, which is apparently still in development at Skydance. The writers are also working on a new Christmas Carol project for the Russo Brothers and The Good, the Evil & the Undead for Legendary.
Are you excited to see Raimi jump in and direct a new horror movie?
