Sam Raimi Isn’t Totally Closing the Door on SPIDER-MAN 4 After All
Sam Raimi recently sounded like he was closing the door on making about Spider-Man movie and talked about passing the character on to a new generation, embracing the idea that different creators would bring their own take on the wall-crawler to the screen.
But now, in a twist that’ll definitely catch the attention of longtime fans, Raimi is walking that certainty back just a bit and admitting that another swing with his Spider-Man might not be as off-limits as it first sounded.
While promoting his new film Send Help, Raimi spoke with the Associated Press and was asked the question fans never really stopped asking.
Is there truly no chance he’d return for a fourth Spider-Man movie starring Tobey Maguire? His answer wasn’t a flat no. Instead, it came with hesitation, thoughtfulness, and just enough hope to get fans fired up again.
"I think the kids would like to see [Tobey's Spider-Man]," Raimi explained. "Right now, Marvel is very successful on their own tangent with their own Spider-Man, where he is involved with The Avengers and the other superheroes.”
The MCU version of Peter Parker is deeply woven into a larger superhero fabric, and Raimi seems careful not to step on that momentum. Even after seeing Maguire return alongside Holland and Andrew Garfield, Raimi doesn’t think now is the right moment to pull his Spider-Man back out for a solo adventure.
"I don’t think it makes sense right now to break up that great, successful run they're having, just to allow me to make another Spider-Man movie," he added. "I'd love to. The day might come, and I’d love to do it.”
That’s a pretty big shift from the hard stop many assumed was in place. Raimi isn’t pushing for Spider-Man 4, but he isn’t shutting it down either. It sounds like timing is everything.
As fun as it would be to revisit Maguire’s Peter Parker in a standalone story, the MCU is in the middle of juggling a lot of moving pieces, and adding another Spider-Man thread might be more chaos than celebration right now.
Still, the fact that Raimi is even entertaining the idea again is awesome. For fans who grew up with his trilogy, that door cracking open is enough to keep the dream alive. In the meantime, Marvel is moving forward with Holland’s next chapter, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is currently set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
