Sam Raimi Offers Delightful Reaction To Seeing Tobey Maguire Back as Spider-Man in SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME
While I have enjoyed the recent Spider-Man movies from Marvel and Sony, I’m still a huge fan of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films. They are still my favorites! I loved the stories they told; they were extremely well-made films with awesome action scenes; they had a wonderful and unique playful charm to them; and Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man was spectacular in the role!
It was so cool that we got to see Maguire back in action again as Spider-Man after all those years in Spider-Man: No Way Home! His appearance, along with Andrew Garfield’s, definitely elevated the movie and it made fans happy.
During a recent screening of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Raimi was asked about seeing Maguire back as Spider-Man, and his reaction to it was quite delightful. He said:
"When I saw Tobey Maguire, my heart went out and I thought there's my old hero, my old friend."
You can watch the clip of the filmmaker’s emotional response below. Maguire recently shared his reaction to finally being asked to come back after all those years, saying:
“When they called initially, I was like finally! [Laughs] I got the call and was immediately open about coming to do this. Not without nerves – you know, ‘What will this look like and what will the experience be?’ But to get to show up with beautiful, talented, creative people and play together? It’s just like, ‘Yes!’ It’s fun and exciting.
He also went on to say that the is is totally up for doing it again if asked:
“I love these films and I love all of the different series. If these guys called me and said, ‘Would you show up tonight to hang out and goof around?’ or ‘Would you show up to do this movie or read a scene or do a Spider-Man thing?’, it would be a ‘yes!’ Because why wouldn’t I want to do that?”
I hope we haven’t seen the last of Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man! In fact, it would be amazing if he and director Sam Raimi teamed up again to tell another Spider-Man story!
