Sam Raimi Referenced Doctor Strange in SPIDER-MAN 2 and Bruce Campbell Comments on Raimi and DOCTOR STRANGE 2

For the most part, fans seem excited about the possibility of Sam Raimi directing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I personally think he’s a great choice to helm the film, and if he signs up to do it, I can’t wait to see what his vision for the film will be.

While we wait to see if he strikes a deal with Marvel Studios, I thought I’d point out that time that Sam Raimi referenced Doctor Strange in Spider-Man 2, which is still considered by many to be one of the best Spider-Man films.

In the scene, which you can watch below, J.K. Simmons's J. Jonah Jameson is trying to come up with a catchy name for New York's new supervillain. Before they come up with Doctor Octopuss, Doctor Strange’s name is dropped as a suggestion, and it’s revealed that it’s already taken, meaning that Doctor Strange did exist in Raimi’s Spider-Man universe.

Anyway, Raimi obviously has a soft spot for Doctor Strange, so the fact that he might actually get to direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness all these years later is pretty rad!

One more thing! Bruce Campbell commented on the news of Raimi possibly directing the next Doctor Strange film, saying:

If Raimi does end up directing the film, I guess we can expect to see a Campbell cameo in it!
