I’ve got some exciting news for all of you Evil Dead fans out there! Director Sam Raimi isn’t done with the franchise yet! The recent series may have been cancelled by Starz and Bruce Campbell may have retired from the role of Ash, but Raimi wants to make another movie and he’s already started developing ideas!

During a recent interview with Bloody-Disgusting, the filmmaker was asked what was in store for the future of the franchise and this was his response:

“I’d love to make another one. I don’t think TV is in its future but we’re talking about – Bruce [Campbell], Rob [Tapert] and myself – one or two different ways to go for the next movie. We’d like to make another Evil Dead feature and in fact we’re working on some ideas right now.”

That’s great news! Hopefully they end up cracking open a fun story concept for the franchise. The big question is, would this film continue to follow the story of Ash? Would it be a sequel to director Fede Álvarez’s remake? Would it be something completely new for the franchise? Raimi would be happy if Campbell came out of retirement for another film, and he’d also love to work with Fede Alverez again, but that might not happen either.

“I would be thrilled if Bruce Campbell changed his mind about retirement, would come back for the original Evil Dead line. But if not, I’m very happy to work with, if Fede [Álvarez] would come back and make the sequel… but he’s such a big shot now. He’s so successful, an artist in demand, that I don’t think he’d want to do that.”

The filmmaker then said that there’s a third possibility for the continuation of the franchise, but doesn’t reveal what it is. But he does tease that we may see some real movement on the next film in the next six months!

“But there’s also a third possibility we’re talking about. So I think you may see some action on the Evil Dead movie in the next six months.”

Also, when talking about Álvarez’s remake, Raimi clarified that the events of his remake is “a part of the Evil Dead universe but not part of the Bruce Campbell storyline.”

This is pretty cool news to hear and a can’t wait to see what Raimi and his creative team end up cooking up for this next chapter of the Evil Dead! What would you like to see in a new Evil Dead movie?
