Sam Raimi Would Love to Be Involved with Marvel’s SPIDER-MAN
Sam Raimi already made a couple of great Spider-Man movies. It makes me wonder what he could have done with the character today with Marvel helping him bring his vision to life. Raimi ushered in a whole new era of superhero movies with his Spider-Man films. Unfortunately, the streak ended with Spider-Man 3. I don’t think that’s all Raimi’s fault, though. The studio wanted to fill that movie with villains. Raimi is still man enough to own up to the film's failure, which is something that Sony Pictures would never admit to.
During an interview with The Week, Raimi takes ownership of Spider-Man 3's outcome, and says he’d be interested in helping Marvel with whatever they have in store next for the next installment of the franchise.
"I messed up on the third one. I think they're so complete now, Marvel. They probably don't need me anymore. But if they needed me? I'd love to. It's great to be wanted."
I think it would be so cool if Marvel brought Raimi back to direct one of these Spider-Man films, but I don’t think it will ever happen. He has such a unique filmmaking style, and I don’t know if Marvel would want mix that up with their formulaic way of doing things.
I love these Marvel films, but let's face it, anyone can come in to direct these movies, and they’ll basically all have the same style and feel to them. That’s just the universe they’ve built. There’s nothing wrong with it, but filmmakers are limited in the way they can express themselves. Raimi’s wild and energetic directing style probably wouldn’t fit. As for bringing him on as a consultant type gig, yeah, Raimi’s right, they probably feel like they don’t need him, which is kinda sad. It's ok, though, because we already got our Raimi Spider-Man films.
