Sam Raimi's THE EVIL DEAD is Getting a Drive-In Theater Re-Release Across The Country!

I’ve got some exciting news for all of you who are fans of Sam Raimi’s classic 1981 horror film The Evil Dead. Grindhouse Releasing is bringing the film to drive-in theaters across the country beginning this Saturday night, June 13th. The movie’s first stop will be Pride’s Corner Drive-In in Westbrook, Maine, with more venues to be confirmed.

Last Halloween Grindhouse Releasing brought The Evil Dead to theaters for the first time in 4K with an awesomely creepy new soundtrack from original composer Joseph LoDuca. I had an opportunity to see that and it was a pretty cool experience.

Grindhouse explained, “We’re now releasing the original version to drive-ins – scanned from the 16mm camera negative in 2K with Joe’s original score and soundtrack. If exhibitors want to show the 4K DCP of ‘Evil Dead Reimagined’, we can supply it, so it depends on the individual drive-ins. (I know of at least one that will be showing the Reimagined cut, and another drive-in that’s showing it in 35mm.)”

Since I’ve already seen the reimagined cut on the big screen, I’d personally like to see the original version of the film. Regardless, I’m definitely going when there’s a release date mentioned for the area I live in!

Will you be planning to attend a drive-in screening of The Evil Dead?!
