Samuel L. Jackson Will Reprise His Role of John Shaft in SON OF SHAFT with Jessie T. Usher Playing His Son
New Line Cinema and director Tim Story (Fantastic Four) have cast Jessie T. Usher (Independence Day: Resurgence) in the role of John Shaft's son in Son of Shaft. Samuel L. Jackson is also going to reprise his role from John Singleton's 2000 film. Deadline is also reporting that Richard Roundtree, who starred in the 1971 film will be back as well. Jackson played his nephew in the 2000 movie.
Apparently, the studio has been looking at actors for months to find the right actor to take on the role of the young Shaft. Maybe Usher will be able to let his talent shine in Son of Shaft because starring in Independence Day: Resurgence didn't do him any favors. that movie was awful. Even Jeff Goldblum was hard to watch in that movie!
According to the report, he will play the son of the detective, "who, after long being estranged from his father, finds himself teamed up with him. The young man is an FBI agent, a cyber expert, and the partnership with dad is an uneasy collision of old-school meets new school."
I've enjoyed watching films in the Shaft franchise and I hope this next chapter turns out to be a fun an entertaining flick!
