Sandra Oh to Star in the Sam Raimi-Produced Supernatural Horror Film UMMA
Sandra Oh is set to star in an upcoming supernatural horror thriller titled Umma. The film is set up at Sony Pictures, and Sam Raimi is producing.
The story for Umma, which is the Korean word for “mother,” follows a character named Amanda (Oh) and her daughter “living a quiet life on an American farm, but when the remains of her estranged mother arrive from Korea, Amanda becomes haunted by the fear of turning into her own mother.”
This sounds like it will be an interesting story to tell and a great project for Oh to be a part of. She doesn’t really make horror projects, so it will be interesting to see what comes of this.
The film comes from screenwriter Iris K. Shim (The House of Suh), and she will also make her feature film directing debut, making the film the first horror studio film written and directed by a Korean American woman and starring a Korean American Actress.
The movie also stars Fivel Stewart, Dermot Mulroney, Odeya Rush, MeeWha Alana Lee, and Tom Yi.
