SCARFACE Remake Finds a New Director

Movie Remake by Joey Paur

It looks like that Scarface remake is still happening, only it's not happening with Harry Potter director David Yates anymore. The movie is set up at Universal Pictures, and they've hired Pablo Larrain to take Yates' place as the director. Larrain directed a movie called No back in 2012 that was an Academy Award nominee for foreign language film.

According to the Variety, the movie will be "a reimagining of the core immigrant story told in both the 1932 and 1983 films. The new film will be set in Los Angeles and explore an immigrant’s rise in the criminal underworld."

They also say that the main character will likely be Mexican. The character Al Pacino played in the 1983 version was Cuban.

Paul Attanasio wrote the current draft of the screenplay. I can't say I'm very excited about this remake. The Pacino version is such a classic, and I don't see how a remake could be any better.
