Scarlett Johansson Addresses Natasha and Bruce Not Ending Up Together in the MCU
Everyone who is a fan of the MCU saw the arc in the Avengers films that had Natasha Romanov/Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) heading toward a relationship. They definitely had the chemistry. There were longing gazes, handholding, a kiss, Natasha was the only one who could talk to Bruce in his Hulk state, and I think most people believed they were headed toward a full-on relationship, but that was pretty much abandoned in the end.
Some fans were pretty bummed, but it was hard to focus too much on their relationship when they were fighting Thanos and everyone was dying. So now we can look back and wonder, and ask Johansson what she thinks about the whole thing, which is exactly what THR did in a recent interview. I’ll include the video clip of her answering questions below. One of the questions asked, “What was your reaction to saying goodbye to Natasha and Bruce, and how did you cope with them never getting their happy ending and ending up together?” Johansson replied:
“I think that they made a choice that was for the greater good. I think everybody must have had that where you kind of meet someone, and it's just not the right time. It just wasn't really meant to be, but I would love to do the other kind of story line where they have some sort of Bogart and Bacall romance."
That would be fun! I sounds like something they could explore in the new Disney+ series, What If…?, only I would want a live-action version with Ruffalo and Johansson, not an animated version. What about you? Would you dig a romance story between Natasha and Bruce?
