Scarlett Johansson Steps Away From Two Films After Landing THE BATMAN: PART II

Scarlett Johansson is prepping jump into Gotham City, and that commitment has shaken up her upcoming film slate. The Oscar nominated actress has officially exited two movies after signing on for a mystery role in Matt ReevesThe Batman: Part II, the highly anticipated 2027 sequel that brings Robert Pattinson back as Bruce Wayne.

Her character is still under wraps although industry chatter suggests she may be playing a villain who complicates Bruce’s already messy personal life. Nothing on that front has been confirmed, but the idea alone has fans fired up.

Locking in The Batman: Part II comes with a packed 2026 shooting schedule. Johansson is also set for Mike Flanagan’s new The Exorcist project which films around the same time. With both productions demanding long commitments, she has stepped away from two films that had previously been on her horizon.

According to The InSneider, Johansson will no longer portray Mother Gothel in Disney’s live action remake of Tangled. Tangled is being directed by Michael Gracey, known for The Greatest Showman and Better Man, so losing Johansson marks a big shift in the project’s path forward.

Sneider also reports that Johansson has exited the indie crime drama Featherwood, which was announced in 2024. The film would have seen her play a heroin addict who becomes an FBI informant in a gritty true story to be directed by Andrea Arnold.

Sneider explained the key reason for Johansson’s departure, stating that Arnold left the movie in September and “and the chance to work with Arnold was a big reason why Johansson signed on to that project.”

Reeves is co-writing The Batman: Part II with Mattson Tomlin and the film hits United States theaters on October 1, 2027. It’ll be interesting to see who Johansson ends up playing in the film.
