Scarlett Johansson Teases TRANSFORMERS ONE Animation Style Saying It Doesn't Look Like Anything We've Seen Before

We’ve got a new big-budget Transformers animated film coming titled Transformers One and it sounds like it’s going to end up being an awesome movie. I’m very excited about the story that it’s going to tell, which revolves around the origins of Cybertron, and it will center on a young Optimus Prime and Megatron who are finding their path.

Scarlett Johansson stars in the movie and plays a character named Elita-One. During an interview with Collider, the actress talked a little bit about the film and teased the animation style, which is apparently going to be something that we’ve never really seen before. She said:

"Yes, I'm playing Elita. I'm working with Josh Cooley, who is an incredible writer-director who I adore and have worked creatively with in another capacity. The film doesn't look like anything I've ever seen before, it looks so cool! The texture of it is so awesome. And because Josh wrote it, it just feels very… I don't know, it's got a very dramatic feeling about it. It's funny, but it's got so much heart to it like all of his stuff does. I think it's a different way of approaching this IP. I think it stands on its own, it's pretty exciting."

That’s exciting to hear! That definitely piqued my curiosity and I can’t wait to see what the style of this movie is going to be like.

Johansson is joined by Chris Hemsworth as Optimus Prime, Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, and Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion.

It’s been explained that, "This is … the origin story of young Megatron and young Optimus. If you know the origin, they started as friends, and over time things devolved for them and they ended up on two sides. So we're telling the young Optimus and the young Megatron story. We really are telling the origin story of all Transformers, both what they were at the beginning of it, to how they grow, to how they grow apart."

Paramount Animation's President, Ramsey Naito, previously had this to say regarding the new Transformers film: "I'm so excited and proud to be working with Hasbro and eOne to bring the first animated Transformers movie to theaters for a never-before-told story. I'm honored to have such incredible talents come together to portray these well-known and much-loved characters in an origin story at the heart of the franchise."

This will be the first of what Di Bonaventura calls a "natural trilogy,” and it’s going to explore “Cybertron in a way you've never seen it, that no one's ever seen it before.”

The film is being directed by Josh Cooley (Toy Story 4) from a script he wrote with Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari.

Transformers One is scheduled to hit theaters on September 13, 2024.
