Scarlett Johansson's GHOST IN THE SHELL Film Moves from Disney to Paramount
There's been a big change in the live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. DreamWorks has moved the production from Disney to Paramount Pictures, who will now be co-financing the film. The movie is still set to be directed by Snow White and the Huntsman helmer Rupert Sanders, and Scarlett Johansson is still set to play the lead role.
I doubt this switch-up will affect the movie, but I'm sure Paramount is happy to get a piece of the action. There's no information on why the switch was made, but maybe it just didn't end up being Disney material. The story follows the exploits of a member of a covert ops unit of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission that specializes in fighting technology-related crime.
I'm curious to see how this film turns out. I'm such a big fan of the anime, and I hope this movie does it justice. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that it's going to disappoint. It might look amazing visually, but it's all going to come down to how Sanders and his filmmaking team handle the story.
The movie hits theaters on March 31st, 2017.
