Scarlett Johansson's Sci-Fi Thriller UNDER THE SKIN is Going To Be Adapted Into a Series
Scarlett Johansson's 2014 sci-fi thriller, Under The Skin, is going to be adapted into a TV series. The story for the film centered on an extraterrestrial disguised as a woman as she preys on men in Scotland. The movie was met with rave reviews, but it didn’t really do much at the box office as it only made $5.3 million worldwide.
I could actually see the concept for the story working a lot better as a series, and right now there’s a bidding war on who gets to make the series between the original film’s financier, Silver Reel, and A24, which is the studio that released it in the United States. So, things in that previous working relationship are obviously a bit uncomfortable.
Deadline says that the bidding war between Silver Rell and A24 “has not been acrimonious and there is hope that all parties will emerge from the process with relationships intact.” So, in the end I’m sure things will all work out and one of them will get to make the series.
Here’s the official synopsis for the film:
From visionary director Jonathan Glazer (Sexy Beast, Birth) comes a stunning career transformation, a masterpiece of existential science fiction that journeys to the heart of what it means to be human, extraterrestrial—or something in between. A voluptuous woman of unknown origin (Scarlett Johansson) combs the highways in search of isolated or forsaken men, luring a succession of lost souls into an otherworldly lair. They are seduced, stripped of their humanity, and never heard from again.
Based on the novel by Michel Faber (The Crimson Petal and the White), Under The Skin examines human experience from the perspective of an unforgettable heroine who grows too comfortable in her borrowed skin, until she is abducted into humanity with devastating results.
