SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK Featurette Shows Off Some Cool Monster Makeup Work

I thought that Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark was a pretty fun horror flick! I enjoyed the scares that it had to offer, and it was fun watching my kids react to those scares. They movie completely freaked them out!

In case you weren’t aware, the movie used a lot of practical effects to bring the monsters included in the story to life. They wanted to avoid CGI if they could when bringing artist Stephen Gammell’s gnarly illustrations from the book to life, and they did an awesome job pulling that off.

I’ve got a new featurette from the film to share with you that shows off “The Corpse,” who creepily comes looking after her missing toe. Producer Guillermo del Toro explains in the video that they had to cast an incredibly thin actor named Javier Botet, who also appeared in The Conjuring 2 as The Crooked Man, KeyFace in Insidious: The Last Key, and also the Slender Man.

The video also offers a time lapse video showing us what went into transforming Botet into The Corpse. It’s pretty impressive work! I especially love the disturbing facial prosthetics.
