SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK Sequel is Moving Forward with Director André Øvredal

If you liked producer Guillermo del Toro and director André Øvredal feature film adaptation of the creepy-ass horror anthology book series Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, you’ll be happy to learn that a sequel for the film is now in development!

There are no details on the story that the film will tell, but it’s safe to assume that it will utilize some new story elements and creatures from the Alvin Schwartz book series. Øvredal will return to direct the sequel and the writers of the first film, Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman, will be back to write the script.

The first film was set in 1968 in the small American town of Mill Valley where for generations, “the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home.”

As a fan of the book series, which I grew up reading, I actually really enjoyed the first film! It was a fun and playful horror movie that caught the spirit of the stories the books told. I honestly didn’t think we would see a sequel get made, so this is a pleasant surprise!
