Science Proves the NARUTO Run is Dumb

Everyone likes to make fun of kids for doing the run from Naruto. You know the one. You lean forward, stretch your hands back and run like an anime ninja. Well, the question is, does that style of run make you faster? One could assume that it does based on the idea of aerodynamics. The posture indeed looks more aerodynamic than normal running which may lead some to believe that it’s better. Well, Kyle Hill explored this idea with Jeneba Tarmoh, a gold medalist runner, in a recent episode of Because Science. I won’t go into everything Hill does, but his results conclude that the Naruto run is slower. Also, it’s more dangerous, so be careful.

Does anime-style running actually make you faster? I asked a gold medalist to help me tackle this trope. Thanks to The Outer Worlds from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division for sponsoring today's episode! The Outer Worlds will be available for PC, PS4, and XBOX One on October 25th.
