Scooby-Doo Anime Series YOKOSO SCOOBY-DOO! Heads to Tubi With Matthew Lillard and Frank Welker Returning
After decades of haunted mansions, masked creeps, and Scooby Snacks, the Scooby-Doo franchise is finally diving headfirst into anime, and this sounds like a pretty awesome direction for Mystery Inc.’s lovable characters.
The new series is titled Yokoso Scooby-Doo!, and it’s officially bringing the legendary mystery-solving Great Dane to anime for the first time ever.
According to Variety, franchise veterans Frank Welker and Matthew Lillard are returning once again as Scooby-Doo and Shaggy Rogers. Fans already know Lillard has become synonymous with Shaggy over the years, not only voicing the character in animation, but also playing him in the live-action films Scooby-Doo and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.
This new adventure sends Scooby and Shaggy to Japan for what’s supposed to be the ultimate foodie vacation. Naturally, things spiral into supernatural insanity almost immediately. The official synopsis reads:
“While visiting Japan on the ultimate foodie adventure, Scooby-Doo and Shaggy unwittingly unleash hundreds of mythical monsters that are causing trouble across the country.
“With the help of Scooby’s uncle, Daisuke-Doo, along with new friends, a magical girl Yume and gadget whiz Takumi, the group embarks on an all-new mystery filled with monster chasing and fun chaos.”
Scooby and Shaggy accidentally unleashing mythical creatures because they were chasing snacks feels incredibly on brand.
The project has actually been floating around for a while. Back in 2024, news broke about a Scooby-Doo anime-inspired series called Go-Go Mystery Machine, which was originally being developed at Cartoon Network.
Over time, that concept appears to have evolved into Yokoso Scooby-Doo!. The similarities between the two projects are pretty obvious, right down to the premise and artwork.
Now the series has landed at Tubi for its North American release, while Cartoon Network will handle international distribution. Animation duties are being handled by Japanese powerhouse OLM, the studio known for Pokémon and The Apothecary Diaries, alongside Warner Bros. Animation.
At the moment, it doesn’t sound like the full Mystery Inc. gang is tagging along for the ride. There’s no confirmation that Fred, Daphne, or Velma will appear, so this may end up being more of a Scooby and Shaggy-focused adventure with an entirely new supporting cast.
Yokoso Scooby-Doo! looks like it’s leaning fully into Japanese fantasy and anime storytelling with magical girls, tech geniuses, and mythological monsters running wild across the country.
There’s still no release date attached to the series, but between the anime aesthetic, returning voice cast, and wonderfully weird premise, this could end up being a great Scooby-Doo series.
