Scorsese’s $100-Million Netflix Gangster Film THE IRISHMAN Gets Green Light

Director Martin Scorsese is officially back in the gangster business with long time friend and former Goodfella, Robert De Niro. Indiewire.com reports that Netflix gave the green light on the film titled The Irishman, and will begin production in August. It will be Scorsese's 9th film with De Niro.

De Niro will play a mob hit man that is supposedly involved in the death of Jimmy Hoffa. Al Pacino will play Jimmy Hoffa and according to IMDB, Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel will also star.

Why so expensive, for a gangster movie you ask? Well, De Niro will be made to look 30 years old by VFX company Industrial Light and Magic. So I think its safe to say a healthy amount of the budget will be going to that.

Indiewire reports Netflix is aiming for a 2019 release day.

There is nothing like a good Scorsese gangster flick, I have to admit I am anxious to see this movie mostly because of all the VFX. If they successfully make De Niro look decades younger in a non-distracting way it could really change the industry. I have a feeling we're going to be seeing a lot more of this in the future. New action movies starring a young Arnold Schwarzenegger, perhaps? What do you guys think?
