Scotland Will Be Transformed Into Gotham City in THE BATMAN

When you think of Gotham City, New York City seems like the go-to shooting location. Matt Reeves’ The Batman is doing something a little different, though. He’s going for a different vibe for the city as he will be shooting his Gotham City scenes in Glasgow, Scotland.

They will transform parts of the city into Gotham and several scenes of the film will be shot in the streets of Glasgow starting next month. Daily Record reports that “parts of the city will be made to look like Batman’s fictional home, giving residents a front-row seat for the movie.”

A source said, “Glasgow will be turned into Gotham City and, with the city’s architecture, it’s expected to look great in the new film. It will also be the first time for DC fans to see the new Batmobile so there will be lots of them prepared to stand in the rain hoping they can spot it. Anyone who sees the Batmobile around town will probably look twice.”

I remember I was visiting New York City when Christopher Nolan was shooting The Dark Knight Rises. I happened to catch them shooting one of the riot scenes and when I saw the Tumbler Batmobile in action in real life speeding around the corner in the streets, I lost my shit. That was so cool! So, yeah, I imagine a lot of locals are going to flip over seeing the new Batmobile driving around their city.

Shooting for the film has already begun in London, but Glasgow is the production’s next stop.

The movie stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Colin Farrel as Penguin, Zoe Kravitz will play Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano will play the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright will play Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis is set to play Alfred, and John Turturro has been cast in the role of Carmine Falcone. Peter Sarsgaard also has a mysterious role in the film.

There is so much we don’t know about the movie, but we do know that The Batman will be a noir-style film that will lean into Batman in his detective mode. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on June 25th, 2021.
