Scott Derrickson Confirmed To Return To Direct DOCTOR STRANGE 2

We’ve got some great news for all you Doctor Strange fans! Marvel Studios and Disney have officially brought Scott Derrickson back to helm the sequel.

I love what Derrickson did with the first movie and I can’t wait to see what he is planning for the sequel! Benedict Cumberbatch is set to return as Stephen Strange, and I really hope that we see Chiwetel Ejiofor return as Baron Mordo. I’m confident that Benedict Wong will be back as Wong and that we’ll see a few other familiar faces like Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer.

It’s way too early to tell what kind of story Doctor Strange 2 will tell, the studio has yet to even hire a writer. I assumed that the original screenwriter, C. Robert Cargill, would be back, but who knows.

At this point it’s hard to figure out what to expect because we have no idea how Avengers: Endgame is going to affect everything.

When previously talking about a sequel to Doctor Strange, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said:

"Sometimes it's where do those characters pop up? [Doctor] Strange, you know, whenever we do another Strange [movie], which we will do, it will be a number of years from the first Strange, and yet he's a very big part of Infinity War. So it is just a good problem to have when you have too many beloved characters that people want to see more of, whilst keeping to our core belief that we need to keep exploring nuance and keep doing different types of things."

Screenwriter C. Robert Cargill previously teased the story he’d like to tell and says he wants to include the villainous character, Nightmare.

"Marvel movies work in threes. They also work outside of their threes. Some of the better Marvel films have more than one villain in them. Me and Scott have not laid the groundwork for it but what I can say is that I have a feeling that whatever Nightmare is involved with, Baron Mordo, being somebody who considers himself the defender of natural law will have something to do with it."

If all goes well, Doctor Strange 2 will go into production in 2020 and be released in theaters in May of 2021.

What would you like to see happen in a Doctor Strange sequel?
