Scrapped THE ACOLYTE Season 2 Details Reveal Darth Plagueis’ Major Role and Epic Fight

Disney+ may have cancelled The Acolyte after a single season, but there was so much more story to be told. New details have surfaced about what showrunner Leslye Headland had planned for Season 2, and it sounds like the series was preparing to go much further into the darker corners of Star Wars.

According to Knight Edge Media, Headland had already assembled writers for a second season, with a series bible covering Seasons 2 and 3 along with short outlines for individual episodes.

Those plans included Darth Plagueis pulling strings from the shadows, Yoda becoming more involved, Osha continuing her fall to the Dark Side, and a brutal confrontation between Plagueis and Qimir.

The Acolyte sparked plenty of debate before and during its Disney+ run in 2024. The series was also hit by apparent review-bombing ahead of its premiere, while some members of the cast dealt with online abuse and trolling.

The show also took some major swings with Star Wars mythology. One of its biggest ideas involved exploring how the Force could be used to create life, connecting its story to the mystery surrounding Anakin Skywalker's conception.

The finale then introduced Darth Plagueis in live-action for the first time, opening the door to a much larger role for the Sith Lord.

Season 2 reportedly would have jumped forward one year after the first season. Osha's story was going to kick off in a pretty wild place, with the premiere finding her "in a gladiator ring run by the Hutts," where Qimir's apprentice would kill a Hutt named Brigo.

Meanwhile, the Jedi Order would learn what happened and recruit Mae to help locate Osha before her sister completely surrendered to the Dark Side. Mae had apparently been trained by Yoda to track Osha through the Force.

Yoda himself would have had a Padawan named Cohli, with Lucasfilm reportedly looking to cast a South Asian actress for the role. That would have brought the legendary Jedi Master much closer to the central conflict instead of keeping him on the edges of the story.

The bigger revelation involves Qimir's relationship with Darth Plagueis. Apparently Qimir was working for him.

The report explains: "Qimir works directly for Darth Plagueis and does his bidding. Throughout the season, Qimir (and, by extension, Osha) is tasked with assassinating multiple other figures besides the Hutt in service of Darth Plagueis.

“They are revealed to be just pawns in a large conspiracy, much like Vader killing the Separatists in The Revenge of the Sith."

Season 2 also would have dug further into Qimir's history through flashbacks. One episode was planned to show his origin from his perspective, while another would explore those events through Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh's point of view.

Qimir was also getting an upgrade in the villain-lair department. His new home would have been "a mansion on the same planet from season 1 instead of a cave, with a snarky droid servant."

The mansion would have played a major role in one of the season's biggest sequences, involving Darth Plagueis hiding in plain sight during a gala.

According to the report: "During a gala, Darth Plagueis appears as a normal-looking hologram to the guests but is secretly inside like a vampire-type monster hidden deep in the mansion's shadows.

“Plagueis is constantly trying to have Qimir bring him Osha. However, Qimir refuses, and the two ultimately fight, with Qimir beaten to within an inch of his life."

A live-action Darth Plagueis fight would have been a big moment for Star Wars, especially with Qimir turning against the Sith Lord who had been using him. It also sounds like Plagueis would've been presented as a genuinely creepy presence.

Osha would then save the badly injured Qimir, leading into another unusual sequence that would push their relationship beyond the traditional Master and Apprentice dynamic:

"Osha saves him and brings him to a Force deprivation pool...Star Wars would have its first on-screen 'sexual' experience on screen with Osha and Qimir. The two would be in the pool together, finally let their guard down, and then their spirits/consciousness would become one with the Force sensually."

That experience apparently would have changed their relationship heading into the planned third season, making them something more than Master and Apprentice.

Whatever you thought about The Acolyte, Headland had much bigger plans had the show been able to continue. Darth Plagueis was going to become a major player, Qimir and Osha were headed deeper into his conspiracy, and Yoda and the Jedi would have been pulled directly into the hunt.

It's hard not to wonder how that Plagueis and Qimir fight would have played out on screen because the lightsaber fight scenes in Season 1 were pretty awesome. But, Disney+ cancelled the series and there's currently no indication that Osha, Qimir, Mae, or this corner of the High Republic era will return.
