SCREAM 7 Trailer Teases The New Ghostface Killer Has Been Planning This For Years
With just weeks to go before Scream 7 hits theaters, Paramount has dropped a new trailer that starts laying its cards on the table. The footage puts Neve Campbell back front and center as Sidney Prescott and makes it clear this sequel is aiming straight for the franchise’s roots while pulling in every era of Scream along the way.
It’s less about nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake and more about dragging old ghosts, literal and otherwise, back into the spotlight.
The new trailer arrives as anticipation for Scream 7 ramps up, especially after months of speculation about how deep this movie would dig into the past. This one isn’t just another Ghostface mystery. It’s framed like a reckoning.
Familiar faces will resurface in the film, including long-buried characters that are suddenly relevant again, and Sidney is once more forced to confront a legacy that refuses to stay dead.
Kevin Williamson, the creator of the franchise, is both writing and directing this chapter. That signals a pivot toward the original tone and structure that made Scream what it is.
Matthew Lillard is se to return as Stu Macher and Scott Foley is coming back as Roman Bridger. Characters who were very much dead are now part of the conversation again, and that’s going to be really interesting to see.
The Big Game spot for Scream 7 is set to air during the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 8, and the film will also mark the first time the franchise gets an IMAX release.
Campbell’s return as Sidney Prescott is the emotional anchor, but she isn’t alone. Courteney Cox is back once again as Gale Weathers, keeping her streak alive as the only actor to appear in every Scream film.
Joining them are Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding, reprising their roles as Mindy and Chad Meeks-Martin from Scream and Scream VI. And David Arquette is set to return as Dewey Riley despite the character’s death in the 2022 sequel.
There are plenty of new players entering the chaos as well. Joel McHale steps in as Mark Evans, Sidney’s husband, while Isabel May plays Tatum Evans, Sidney’s daughter, named after her best friend from the original film.
The supporting cast also includes McKenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Ethan Embry, and Mark Consuelos.
Of course, Scream 7 also arrives with some very visible absences. Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega aren’t returning after leading the last two films. Barrera was fired following comments supporting the Free Palestine movement. Her departure was followed by Ortega stepping away and filmmaker Christopher Landon leaving the project as well. That chain reaction left a lot of fans frustrated and skeptical about the sequel’s future.
How all of that off-screen turmoil affects the film’s box office remains to be seen. Some fans have openly questioned whether they’ll support the movie, while others are focused on the fact that the last two Scream entries proved there’s still a massive audience for this franchise.
With Williamson back at the helm and Sidney Prescott once again facing Ghostface, Scream 7 is clearly betting that history, and horror, still have unfinished business.
The movie is set to be released in theaters on Febraury 27.
