SCREAM Director Says SCREAM 6 Will "Subvert All" Expectations
The creative team behind the most recent Scream movie is in the process of prepping for production on Scream 6. A script is written, and they’ve sent it off to the actors and they are looking to start shooting this summer.
I’ve been wondering what they could do with another film that would take the horror franchise to a new level, be something even more unique than what has already been done.
The directing team Radio Silence, which consists of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, will be back to direct and they are joined once again by writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. When talking about what we can expect from the next movie, Gillett told Empire that it will subvert expectations:
"This movie has to be willing to risk it all in order to subvert all of those expectations, and we're so far down the rabbit hole of Scream movies, that it's all up for grabs at this point."
This franchise is known for riffing on and spoofing aspects of the horror genre and fandom. You can only do that so much with that before the concept starts to get tired. So, what are they going to do with this next movie that will justify its existence?
Gillett discussed how he felt about going to see Scream 2 back when it first came out, when he was just a fan going to the movies. He said:
"(Before seeing it] I remember feeling like there was no more gas in the tank, they'd already driven it so hard. The challenge that Wes and Kevin [Williamson, screenwriter] were having in trying to live up to the expectations of the first film was playing out on screen. It was such a wonderful way to let the audience in."
Hopefully, the story and plan they’ve come up with for Scream 6 having the same effect on fans and audiences.
