SCREAM Star Courteney Cox Says Dewey Was Supposed to Die in the Original Film

Courteney Cox recently revealed that that fan-favorite Scream character Dewey, played by David Arquette, was supposed to be killed off in the original movie. Director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson ended up scrapping the idea because of how likable of a character he was. Cox shared with  Pedestrian TV:

"I was actually with one of the producers not long ago and there was a time, I think it was in the first Scream, where David's character Dewey was gonna be killed off. Then they saw how he came across and people loved him so they scrapped it.”

The character ended up having a rough go over the course of the films and was maimed from constantly being stabbed. The dude almost dies in every movie! As for his fate in the new Scream movie… I won’t spoil that for you. If you haven’t seen the film yet, go watch it and see how his story arc plays out!
