Sealed Copy of SUPER MARIO BROS. Recently Sold for Six Figures

Video game collectors do not joke around. After all, three recently teamed up to purchase an original copy of Super Mario Bros. for the NES at the price of $100,150. I still complain a little when I have to pay $60 for a video game, much less six figures. So, what made this game so special? Apparently, it was “sticker sealed” instead of using shrink wrap, and only a handful of these exist. Also, it was preserved in incredible condition. Kenneth Thrower from Wata Games explains:

Not only are all of NES sticker sealed game’ extremely rare, but by their nature of not being sealed in shrink wrap they usually exhibit significant wear after more than 30 years. [T]his game may be the condition census of all sticker sealed NES games known to exist.

This is nuts. The three new owners are Jim Halperin of Heritage Auctions, Rich Lecce, and Zac Gieg.
