Sean Penn Pulls The Trigger in International Trailer for THE GUNMAN

Sean Penn apparently wants his own Liam Neeson-style action movie, so it makes sense that The Gunman comes from Pierre Morel, the director of the first Taken film. StudioCanal UK dropped the new international trailer for the film on its YouTube page, and this one looks very much like you'd expect: a good guy who's done bad things goes on the run from the government that's after him. Penn has an incredibly talented supporting cast backing him up in this one, including Idris Elba, Ray Winstone, Javier Bardem, and Mark Rylance.

The plot feels pretty standard for an action movie, and the trailer indicates that it will hit all of the familiar beats. But for me, action films have always been more about execution than anything else. Can this group of filmmakers give us something memorable, entertaining, and maybe create an action sequence we haven't seen before? Those are the qualities I'm looking for here, and I don't have long to wait to find out if they'll deliver: The Gunman blasts into theaters on March 20th.
