SEARCH PARTY Red-Band Trailer: Some of Our Favorite Comedians Unite For a HANGOVER Rip-Off

Originally scheduled for a 2014 release, Search Party will finally arrive in theaters on May 13, 2016. The movie seems very much like a blatant attempt to cash in on the success of The Hangover franchise, but it does have a super appealing cast: Thomas Middleditch, T.J. Miller, Adam Pally, Alison Brie, Jason Mantzoukas, Krysten Ritter, and more all pop up here. This movie probably would have played a lot differently in 2014 since its cast members were all very visible at that time: Silicon Valley was first getting started, Community was in its Dan Harmon-led fifth season, and Happy Endings had just wrapped up a short-lived but comedically spectacular run on ABC. In any case, I hope this will be a case in which the movie was worth the wait, but when your first red-band trailer involves a donkey vomiting as a reaction shot in the first ten seconds, that might not be a great sign.

Wedding bells threaten to break up three best friends’ long-running bromance, but they aren’t going down without a fight in Search Party, the directing debut of screenwriter Scot Armstrong (The Hangover Part II, Old School). Convinced that his buddy Nardo (Thomas Middleditch) is making the mistake of a lifetime by marrying Tracy (Shannon Woodward), Jason (T.J. Miller) puts a dramatic end to their wedding. When the furious bride decides to take her Baja honeymoon solo, Nardo follows her south of the border—where the lovesick groom is carjacked and left stranded, naked and penniless in a remote part of the Mexican desert. With no one else to call for help, Nardo sends out an SOS to Jason and their pal Evan (Adam Pally), an up-and-coming ad exec slated for an all-important business meeting the next morning. As Jason and a reluctant Evan rush to Nardo’s rescue, the trio embarks on a series of increasingly outrageous misadventures involving con artists, drug smugglers and even the Federales in this wild and wacky action comedy.

Nardo (Thomas Middleditch) was getting married, when his best friends (TJ Miller, Adam Pally) put a dramatic end to the wedding. Desperate to get his fiancé back from her solo trip to Mexico, the trio embarks on a series of outrageous misadventures.
