Sebastian Stan Rumored to Be Playing a Different Villain in THE BATMAN: PART II Instead of Harvey Dent

Fans thought they had The Batman: Part II figured out once reports started circulating that Sebastian Stan would be stepping into the role of Harvey Dent.

But now, a new rumor is throwing a wrench into that whole theory, and it could mean Matt Reeves has something much more interesting planned for Gotham’s next villain.

Reeves recently confirmed Stan’s involvement in the sequel on X, but he didn’t reveal who the actor is actually playing, but most speculation pointed toward Dent / Two-Face. Now, according to insider Jeff Sneider, that may not be the case at all.

During a podcast appearance with John Rocha, Sneider shared a wild update that he admits should be approached carefully. He explained:

“I got an email this week. It was a f***ing crazy email. It said that someone else is playing Harvey Dent. And it said that Sebastian Stan was playing another villain and that Charles Dance is actually playing Scarlett Johansson’s father.”

He followed that up by saying: “The fact that Reeves didn’t confirm any of that, I wonder if there’s some sort of bait and switch going on.”

That’s enough to send Batman fans into detective mode. If the Harvey Dent rumors turn out to be fake, the obvious question becomes: who could Stan actually be playing?

Reeves has already shown he’s interested in digging into Gotham’s more grounded and psychologically damaged villains, so there’s no shortage of possibilities. Hush, Professor Pyg, Scarecrow, or even a completely reworked Mr. Freeze could all fit the darker crime-driven world established in The Batman.

Stan himself recently teased the scale of the project, and it sounds like Reeves is aiming big with the sequel. The actor said:

“I feel like it’s a really ambitious movie, and I think if we do it all right, and obviously I’m so excited about Matt Reeves because he’s been one of my favorites for a long, long time. I really think it’s going to blow people away. It’s going to surprise a lot of people, I think, too.”

That “surprise a lot of people” comment suddenly feels a lot more suspicious with this new rumor floating around.

At this point, nobody outside Reeves’ inner circle seems to know exactly what’s happening with the cast or which villains are lurking in the shadows of Gotham. But if there really is a bait-and-switch happening, Reeves is trying to keep one massive reveal under wraps.

The Batman: Part II is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Until then, the rumor mill inside Gotham is only going to get crazier.
