Sebastian Stan Weighs In on the Future of Bucky Barnes in the MCU Ahead of His DC Debut in THE BATMAN: PART II
Sebastian Stan has been playing Bucky Barnes in the MCU for the last 15 years. While his character took a backseat for a bit, we saw him return last year briefly in Captain America: Brave New World and fully in Thunderbolts*, where he helped lead the antiheroes into a new era as the New Avengers.
While Stan has already shot scenes for this winter’s Avengers: Doomsday, he is also getting ready to make his DC debut as Harvey Dent/Two-Face in the Matt Reeves-directed sequel The Batman: Part II.
So what could this mean for Stan’s future in Marvel? Stan put fans at ease when talking about the issue at the Cannes Film Festival, where he said, "It's sort of like having a sibling you've never known you had, who you've spent 15 years with. There's been a comfort there returning every few years, which hopefully I'll keep doing."
Marvel is at a pivotal point, and seeing how much changed after Endgame, we will have to wait and see what the status is of all our heroes after Doomsday, and especially Secret Wars. But if Bucky Barnes is left standing, I know fans will be happy to see him return.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on December 18, 2026; The Batman: Part II is set to hit theatres on October 1, 2027; and Avengers: Secret Wars will debut on December 17, 2027.
