In the late 1980s, fans of Batman could call into a hotline and vote on whether Jason Todd would die in the now famous A Death in the Family story. The votes came out to 5,343 votes to kill the Boy Wonder and 5,271 to save him. That’s a difference of only 72 votes! Well, because the voting was so close, it turns out that Jim Starlin wrote both versions of the comic (Batman #428), and now Polygon has been able to share the complete page 10 of the unused version.
Holy cow! This is a crazy piece of DC history, and it’s kind of hard to imagine this different fate. What do you think of this alternative outcome for the famous story?
