SEGA is Releasing the Game Gear Micro Later This Year
The Game Gear was a portable gaming system released by SEGA to rival the Nintendo’s Game Boy. It had some pretty awesome games (my favorite was Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), but it ultimately failed. I’m sure it didn’t help that it required 6 AA batteries to run and lasted a max of 5 hours (although it did have a backlit screen). Well, it still has a cult following though and to celebrate SEGA’s 60th anniversary, they’re releasing the Game Gear Micro. Or rather, four Game Gear Micros.
Each Game Gear Micro is a different color and features 4 different games:
Black:
Sonic the Hedgehog
Puyo Puyo 2
Out Run
Royal Stone
Blue:
Sonic Chaos
Gunstar Heroes
Sylvan Tale
Baku Baku Animal
Red:
Revelations: The Demon Slayer
Megami Tensei Gaiden: Last Bible Special
The GG Shinobi
Columns
Yellow:
Shining Force Gaiden: Ensei – Jashin no Kuni he
Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya
Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict
Nazopuyo Aruru no Ru
In addition, each Game Gear Micro will feature a 1.15-inch display and cost 4,980 yen (roughly $50). Of course, the screen is a joke and SEGA’s response is to offer the 2-inch version of the Big Window accessory if you buy all four models in a bundle that costs 27,255 yen (~$250). I’m not so sure that’s worth it. The Game Gear Micro is set to release in Japan on October 6 with no word on a release outside of Japan. If I were to get one, I’d probably go yellow to play Shining Force.
