Series AMERICAN RUST Has Been Ordered by Showtime, With Jeff Daniels Set to Star and Executive Produce
The series American Rust has been floating around for a while now, but has finally landed at Showtime, which has given the show a straight-to-series order. Now the series is known only as Rust, and has hired on actor Jeff Daniels (Dumb and Dumber, Newsroom, The Looming Tower) to star in and executive produce the series based on the Philipp Meyer novel. Variety reports the following description of the series:
“a family drama that will explore the tattered American dream through the eyes of complicated and compromised chief of police Del Harris (Daniels) in a Rust Belt town in southwest Pennsylvania. When the woman he truly loves sees her son accused of murder, Harris is forced to decide what he’s willing to do to protect him.”
Dan Futterman will write and executive produce for the series, which will be a second collaboration for him and Daniels, whom he worked with on the Emmy-nominated Hulu series, The Looming Tower. This sounds like an interesting story and great project for Daniels to take on. He is a great dramatic actor, and I like stories like this. Are you intrigued by the concept for this series?
