Seth Green's New Series WHITE HORSE TAVERN Hits a Snag After His Bored Ape NFT Is Stolen and Sold
Robot Chicken creator Seth Green has put in a lot of time and hard work developing a series titled White Horse Tavern, which is based on the Bored Ape NFT that he purchased back in 2021. Well, that series has hit a bit of a snag as someone managed to get a hold of the receipt for the NFT by way of a phishing scam, and then they sold it to someone else. Bored Ape, whose name is Fred Simian, was going to be the main character of the series.
Green shared a trailer for White Horse Tavern at the NFT conference VeeCon this past weekend, which you can check out below. The show looks like a lot of fun and is based on the concept, “What if your friendly neighborhood bartender was Bored Ape Yacht Club #8398?” In an interview with Gary Vaynerchuk, Green explained that the show imagines a universe where “it doesn't matter what you look like, what only matters is your attitude.”
When talking about the situation that he’s found himself in, Green explained: "I bought that ape in July 2021, and have spent the last several months developing and exploiting the IP to make it into the star of this show. Then days before — his name is Fred by the way — days before he's set to make his world debut, he's literally kidnapped."
Bored Ape was one of a few NFTs that Green was robbed of this month. Green has been actively trying to get ahold of Twitter user DarkWing84, who bought the stolen Bored Ape NFT, in hopes to work something out. Unfortunately, as of posting this, it doesn’t look like there’s been any luck with that. Green would rather not have to go to court over it.
Green explained in a Tweet: “A buyer who purchased stolen art with real money and refuses to return it is not legally entitled to exploitation usage of the underlying IP. It’ll go to court, but I’d prefer to meet @DarkWing84 before that. Seems we’d have lots in common.”
I’ve been in a deep dive learning all about NFTs and the blockchain and how all that works. It’s all still very much in its infancy and it’s the wild wild west out there right now when it comes to this stuff. Hopefully, Green is able to work things out, get it all fixed, and get his show back on track.
