Seth MacFarlane Set to Star in His Own Sci-Fi Space Dramedy
For all of you Seth MacFarlane fans out there, we have some good news for you. According to Deadline, Fox TV has agreed to bring us the untitled 13 episode, hour-long, live action space dramedy written/produced/starring MacFarlane. Here is what they had to say:
The untitled series originated as a hot spec, written by MacFarlane. It was quickly snatched up by Fox, which, along with 20th TV, is overseen by Dana Walden and Gary Newman, longtime supporters of MacFarlane in their previous role running the studio. Set 300 years in the future, the show follows the adventures of the Orville, a not-so-top-of-the-line exploratory ship in Earth’s interstellar fleet. Facing cosmic challenges from without and within, this motley crew of space explorers will boldly go where no comedic drama has gone before.
I am a self-proclaimed “on the fence” fan of MacFarlane’s work. He is funny, but I am not dying for his next big thing to come out. This premise, however, seems like it could be funny. I am not going to put all of my eggs in one basket and say that it is going to be the funniest thing since Holy Grail, but the synopsis has me interested.
Filming is set to start at the end of this year with a yet to be determined release date.
