Seth McFarlane Is Producing a Reboot of the Classic '80s Comedy REVENGE OF THE NERDS

Seth MacFarlane is set to produce a reboot of the classic ‘80s comedy Revenge of the Nerds for 20th Century Studios. He will be developing the film with Keith and Kenny Lucas, the hilarious identical twin brothers who appeared in 22 Jump Street. They will co-write the film with Alex Rubens (The Twilight Zone, Key and Peele, Rick and Morty), and they will also star in it.

The ‘80s raunchy comedy followed a group of college nerds who quarrel with a jock fraternity known as the Alpha Betas. The movie starred Robert Carradine, Anthony Edwards, Ted McGinley, and Bernie Casey. The movie ended up spawning several sequels.

The original film has not really aged well with the times and has been criticized in recent years for several reasons including depictions of rape. This new film will not be a remake of the original, it will be a contemporary reimagining that “will pontificate about today’s nerd culture and what even constitutes a geek in the 21st century.”

This isn’t the first time the studio tried to reboot the film. Back in 2006, 20th Century Fox was developing one with Adam Brody, Dan Byrd, and Kristin Cavallari. But the studio ultimately shut the project down after two weeks of production.

I’ve only seen Revenge of the Nerds once, and that’s when I was in high school. I’m not really a fan of the franchise, but I do enjoy McFarlane’s comedy and the Lucas Twins are hilarious, so I hope this reboot turns out to be a funny comedy.
