Seth McFarlane's THE ORVILLE Looks a Lot Like a STAR TREK Parody

Comedian/writer Seth MacFarlane took to twitter giving us our first look at his new FOX comedy The Orville, and for most sci-fi fans it might look pretty familiar. FOX announced The Orville is set to start airing in fall 2017. As we reported last August, the show is set about 300 years in the future and follows the adventures of the Orville, "a not-so-top-of-the-line exploratory ship in Earth’s interstellar fleet".

Some are already comparing The Orville to the cult classic feature film Galaxy Quest. For years, fans of that movie have been holding out for a sequel or spin-off for television. Back in 2015 we even heard that Amazon was developing a Galaxy Quest TV series, but the whole process was stalled with the passing of Alan Rickman.

So for now, it looks like The Orville may resurrect the sci-fi comedy, and give many of those Galaxy Quest fans something similar to what they have all been waiting for. The Orville doesn’t have an official premiere date yet.

I know I'm excited! MacFarlane is, in my opinion, a comedic genius as a writer. Look at Family Guy, and both Ted movies. I know he can be a little crude, but there are very few writers that can get me to laugh like he can. Are you excited about his next project?
