SHAUN THE SHEEP: THE BEAST OF MOSSY BOTTOM Gets a Classic Horror-Style Trailer
Halloween is about to get a lot woollier. Aardman Animation and StudioCanal have released a great new trailer for Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom, and this time they're selling Shaun's latest adventure like an old-school monster movie.
The vintage horror approach is a perfect fit for the stop-motion comedy, complete with mad science, a mysterious creature, and plenty of Halloween chaos.
There's even a bit of Young Frankenstein flavor running through the whole thing. Of the trailers released for the movie so far, this might be the most fun.
Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom is the third feature film in Aardman's much-loved woolly franchise, following Shaun the Sheep Movie from 2015 and A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon from 2019.
Shaun has also starred in numerous shorts and TV adventures over the years, but this new movie sends Mossy Bottom Farm straight into monster-movie territory.
The story kicks off as everyone at Mossy Bottom Farm prepares for Halloween. Unfortunately, the Farmer manages to wreck the Flock's beloved pumpkin patch, leaving Shaun to figure out a solution. Naturally, Shaun's answer involves becoming a mad scientist, and his attempt to save Halloween quickly creates a much bigger problem.
The official synopsis reads: “Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom sees the residents of Mossy Bottom Farm looking forward to Halloween – until the clumsy Farmer trashes the Flock's beloved pumpkin patch!
“When Shaun turns into mad scientist to help fix the problem, things rapidly spiral out of control... With The Farmer now missing and a wild beast roaming the woods of Mossingham, all the ingredients are in place for a monstrously fun family adventure.”
The new trailer really leans into the classic horror angle, presenting the Beast of Mossy Bottom like something pulled out of a vintage creature feature. Of course, this is still Shaun the Sheep, so the scares come wrapped in the kind of visual comedy and stop-motion silliness that Aardman does so well.
The film is co-directed by Steve Cox and Matthew Walker. Cox previously worked on Shaun the Sheep: Adventures from Mossy Bottom and The Flight Before Christmas, while Walker's credits include Shaun the Sheep: Adventures from Mossy Bottom and Lloyd of the Flies.
The screenplay comes from Mark Burton and Giles Pilbrow, using characters created by Nick Park, with Richard Beek producing. The movie was made by Aardman Animation in Bristol.
Aardman's stop-motion movies are always worth checking out, and The Beast of Mossy Bottom looks like another wonderfully weird addition to the studio's catalog.
It may be aimed primarily at families and kids, but there's enough classic horror fun and handmade animation here to make this look like an awesome theatrical Halloween treat for longtime Aardman fans as well.
Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom arrives in theaters nationwide on September 18th, 2026.
