Shawn Levy Confirms Patrick Stewart Was "Never Considered" to Reprise Professor X Role in DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE

There were a whole lot of surprising and fun cameos in Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine, but there were a few that fans speculated about that didn’t end up coming true.

One of those rumors was that Patrick Stewart was going to return as Charles Xavier, which wouldn’t have been that shocking, as Stewart starred opposite Jackman in several X-Men movies dating back to the 2000 original, then again in the 2017 tentpole Logan, which served as both Jackman and Stewart’s swan songs.

Stewart then surprised fans when he appeared as Professor X again in Marvel’s 2022 tentpole Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, leading some to believe he might cameo again in Deadpool & Wolverine. But director Shawn Levy stressed that Stewart was never even discussed to return.

Levy shut down rumors on the Happy Sad Confused podcast where he explained:

“Never even discussed. And it was studied. Studied by Emma Corrin big time because the Cassandra sibling-hood to Professor X is really interesting to us. But no, never discussed. Never, never considered.”

It just wasn’t the route of this particular story in the timeline in which it was set. Jackman previously told SiriusXM about returning for this film:

“It’s all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines. Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science. So, I don’t have to screw with the ‘Logan’ timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably to the fans, too.”

Each character and cameo were carefully chosen to tell the story in the film. While Patrick Stewart’s Professor X wasn’t a part of this timeline, I don’t think it would be unreasonable to rule out seeing him return in the future, especially seeing as the multiverse is a key part of the upcoming MCU phases.

Do you hope to see him return to reprise his role?
