SHAZAM! Director David F. Sandberg Discusses The Problem Solving of Filmmaking in Video

David F. Sandberg, the director of Shazam!, shared an insightful video in which he discusses the problem solving of filmmaking and he uses a couple instances from Shazam! that he needed to work through to make certain things in the film work.

He points out stuff that we may have never thought of before and explains why some things turned out the way they did. He says that when making a film, you’re going to have some kind of problem to solve in every scene and that’s one of the things that makes filmmaking fun.

He also points out how some people misinterpret things to mean something more than they really are. When in reality, the choices a filmmaker makes in his films might just be something that needed to be done to quickly solve a problem that arose in the production process.

I like that Sandberg takes the time to open up and talk about things like this. For those of you interested in filmmaking, there’s something to be learned here.

A short video expanding on something I talk about on the Shazam commentary track (Shazam is now available on digital and if you buy the iTunes version you get a commentary track along with the other extras). Everything from Shazam is copyright Warner Bros/New Line Cinema/DC
